"Science is not a boy’s game, it’s not a girl’s game. It’s everyone’s game. It’s about where we are and where we’re going."
— Nichelle Nichols, Former NASA Ambassador and Actress
What’s our goal?
At Girls Who Math, we strive to make STEM fun, approachable, and accessible to young women and gender minorities from all walks of life. Our goal is to break down economic and social barriers and encourage more women to pursue careers in STEM.
What do we do to work toward our goals?
We provide FREE individual tutoring and small group classes while also working to remove the stigma surrounding girls with an interest in STEM.
Today, women only make up 26% of the STEM workforce despite having the same levels of achievement in classes as their male counterparts. Most girls lose interest in STEM around middle school, but we hope to help girls maintain their interest in the field and empower them to continue working towards technical careers. To do this, we work with local schools and other nonprofit organizations to provide information about colleges, scholarships, and other resources that students and their families might not know about or have access to. Through seminars and outreach projects, we work to educate communities about the importance of STEM and how we can all actively work to reduce our biases. We also provide free additional educational resources beyond what some schools are able to provide to help foster interest in STEM. We also acknowledge that certain communities of women and non-binary students are particularly disadvantaged. This is why we additionally work with the Black Student Fund and Latino Student Fund to ensure. At the end of the day, we are here to provide educational services that are accessible to women, regardless of background.
